Tri-State ATV Club gives back by cleaning up

HURRICANE – The road from State Route 9 to Sand Hollow State Park is now free of debris and a couple of old tires following cleanup efforts from local members of the Tri-State ATV Club.

“Last year we cleaned up three loads of trash and found a washer and dryer hidden behind some concrete barriers next to the roadway,” said club member AJ Billings, who participated in the two-and-a-half hour service project on Wednesday. “This year we only had one load of trash and the tires, so it was better.”

Preserving off-road trails and cleaning up popular riding areas is an ongoing service project for the Tri-State ATV Club. Another service project this year included working with the Bureau of Land Management in cleaning up several riding trails in the Kanab area, Billings said.

Hurricane Mayor Tom Hirschi, who is also an enthusiastic off-road ATV rider and club member, said trash bags were supplied by the city for this week’s clean up effort.

“It’s just great and we really appreciate their participation,” said Hirschi. “We have the Huntsman World Senior Games coming out to the park this year and club members wanted to make sure we looked our best. I encourage anyone who loves off-roading to join this club and help out.”

Club members also cleared trash from the parking lot of Sand Hollow State Park, said Billings, and park rangers allowed the group to dump all the accumulated garbage in the park’s huge trash bins.
“We wanted to make the area look nice,” said Billings. ”It’s one of our goals to give back to the community through this type of service. We had a good time.”
