Man who shot at officers booked into Purgatory

ST. GEORGE – A St. George man who exchanged gunfire with police on Halloween was released from the hospital and booked into jail today.

Robert Bell, 49, was charged with a third-degree felony for shooting at officers, as well as several misdemeanor charges of reckless endangerment, disorderly conduct, criminal mischief and possessing a firearm while under the influence of alcohol.

“We’ll review those charges and decide specifically what to charge him with tomorrow,” said Washington County Attorney Ryan Shaum. “We usually review it the next day because that is when the probable cause statement gets to us.”

Bell is being charged after allegedly shooting in the direction of officers in the early morning hours on Oct. 31, after officers responded to a domestic violence call. No officers were injured, however, Bell was shot and taken to the hospital.
