Man Arrested for Robbing Local Woman at Knifepoint at U.S. Bank

ST. GEORGE – On April 21, 2011, at approximately 1:00 PM the St. George Police Department responded to U.S. Bank located at 792 South Bluff St. on a robbery report. A 40 year old female called 911 reporting she had been robbed at knifepoint. The suspect was located and arrested.

Officers located and detained the suspect vehicle, a red Toyota passenger car with California plates, in the area of Sunland and Riverside Dr. They made contact with the driver, later identified as 41 year old Sarkis George Abechian, who met the description officers had of the suspect.

Sarkis allegedly approached the female while she was at the drive thru ATM machine at the bank. He brandished a knife and demanded money. She gave him an undisclosed amount of cash and he ran away. He got in to a red Toyota passenger car and drove away; however, he was followed by the victim and witnesses who were in contact with dispatchers. Sarkis is a resident of California and was only visiting the area. The knife and money were recovered.

Sarkis George Abechian was arrested, interviewed, and booked into Washington County Jail for Aggravated Robbery. His bond was set at $20,000.00.
