ST. GEORGE – Working with law enforcement officials in Mesquite, Nev., detectives with the Washington County Area Task Force arrested a 25-year-old St. George resident who is suspected of distributing $30,000 worth of meth each week in the area.
Lt. Dave Moss said the investigation into the distributer began six weeks ago when officers first suspected the man of having a local meth lab. However, Moss said through the investigation, detectives learned the man was instead getting drugs from a supplier out of Las Vegas and they began working with Mesquite to arrest both men.
Moss said the distributer made arrangements to meet the supplier in Mesquite last night. Mesquite officers were able to arrest the supplier. As the distributer came back to St. George he was picked up by detectives. A warrant to the man’s home, vehicle and cell phone provided officers information to charge the man with seven felony counts of distribution of methamphetamines, as well as the $30,000 worth of meth found on the suspect last night.
“Normally we’re talking grams or eight balls,” Moss said. “This man had 12 ounces of meth. That’s pretty significant for our community to get him off our streets.”
Moss said during the six-week investigation, local buyers were also arrested throughout the area.
Moss said federal charges may be pending and ICE is currently investigating the man’s status in the United States. The suspect is originally from Mexico and has lived in St. George for two years, he said.
