LEEDS- Wild West Days returns to Leeds this Friday and Saturday and expects more attendance than ever before.

“The purpose of the Wild West Days is first to help create memories for residents of Leeds and, second, to create friendships, relationships and unity in the community,” said Hyrum Lefler, chairman of the activities committee. “Also, to bring back who we are and [where] we came from; to learn more about our heritage and cultural and who we are as a community.”

The event will be held at the Leeds Park located behind the town hall on Main Street. The booths open at 5 p.m. on Friday, but the event kicks off at 6 p.m. with the ribbon cutting ceremony and 5K fun run. The booths close at 9 p.m. and a dance will be held afterward.

Main Street is closed at 8 a.m. on Saturday in order to accommodate the Wild West Days events. The booths open again at 9 a.m. and that is when the Soap Box Derby will begin. The Wild West Gun Fights will begin at noon and take place unexpectedly throughout the day at the park.

“The spontaneous gun fights are supposed to be funny and fun for all ages,” Lefler said.

The Pony Express rides begin at 1 p.m. at Silver Reef and the Tombstone Tours begin at the same time. The Tombstone Tours will give attendants an opportunity to tour some mines in Silver Reef and learn some history about the town of Leeds.

The activities at the park are centered on the Wild West theme and include a comedic play about the history of Leeds, gunny sack races, a dunking booth, rocket launching, and pony rides. The booths will close at 9 p.m. with entertainment to follow.
