New logo for ‘Patchwork Parkway’ to be unveiled at event

IRON COUNTY – The public is invited to come and join Utah’s Patchwork Parkway’s communities as they unveil their new logo for their National Scenic Byway on Wednesday, Aug. 1 at 7 p.m. at the Parowan Lions Park. In case of rain, the event will be held at the Parowan Library Council Chambers.

A new logo for the byway was developed as part of the Utah’s Patchwork Parkway (Utah Highway 143) Interpretive and Signage Master Plan. The Plan will result in signs and kiosks that will be installed along this National Scenic Byway which will highlight the diverse colors, cultures, and climates along the route.

The event will include a brief introduction about the byway logo development and an unveiling ceremony. Refreshments will be served.  Information about the Byway Interpretive and Signage Master Plan and interpretive sites map will be displayed.

‘We are excited to show off our new logo that will celebrate the diverse nature of the byway,” said Nancy Dalton, Byway Chairwoman. The choice of a logo was a process that involved the public, starting with gathering input at March 2012 open houses held in Parowan, Panguitch and Brian Head and continuing with voting on Utah’s Patchwork Parkway’s Facebook page. Utah’s Patchwork Parkway Committee and the travelling public also voted on the new logo design and colors.

The next steps in the project will be to design the sign text and graphics and fabricate and install four entryway interpretive kiosks, 14 interpretive trailhead signs / kiosks for the Brian Head area, and eight way-finding signs.  Kimley-Horn and Associates has been selected as the interpretive planning consultant for the project. Assisting them with signage fabrication and installation are iZone, a national sign fabrication company, and Utah-based YESCO (Young Electric Sign Company).

Utah’s Patchwork Parkway was designated on Oct. 16, 2009, as a National Scenic Byway for its historical intrinsic qualities. Utah’s Patchwork Parkway members and activity sponsors are Garfield County, Iron County, Garfield County Tourism – Bryce Canyon Country, Cedar City-Brian Head Tourism, Parowan City, Brian Head Town, Panguitch City, Paiute Indian Tribe of Utah, Five County Association of Governments, Color Country Resource, Conservation & Development Council, Parowan Chamber of Commerce, Brian Head Chamber of Commerce, Panguitch Main Street, Inc., Panguitch Lake Resort, Utah Department of Transportation, Utah State Scenic Byway Committee, Utah Office of Tourism – Governor’s Office of Economic Development, Utah Division of Wildlife Resources, Dixie National Forest – USFS, National Park Service/Cedar Breaks National Monument, Bureau of Land Management, and Federal Highway Administration – National Scenic Byway Program.
