Game preview capsule: Hurricane at West Jordan

GAME PREVIEW CAPSULE

Hurricane (1-0) at West Jordan (0-1)

TIGERS
Classification: 3A, Region 9
Coach: Chris Homer (11th year, 77-42)
Offense: Wing-T
Last week: Beat Skyline 20-7
Players to watch: RB Adam Thompson is exciting to watch and is a heartbeat away from the end zone at any time. Kellen Seely and Andy Perkins look good on defense as well.
PPG: 20.0
PAPG: 7.0
Trend: That’s 14 straight for the defending 3A champs. Jared Edwards is just starting to get comfortable in his new roll as fullback and the Tigers didn’t try to pass much against Skyline. Keanu Stevenson also had some nice runs. The Tigers look very good again.

JAGUARS
Classification: 5A, Region 3
Coach: Mike Morgan (14th year, 66-69 overall)
Offense: Spread
Last week: Lost to Bingham 28-0
Players to watch: QB Michael Moorehead threw for 2,120 yards and 15 TDs last year, though he had just 71 yards and tossed a couple of interceptions last week against Bingham. WR Tristan Taei is his favorite target.
PPG: 0.0
PAPG: 28.0
Trend: Getting ripped by powerhouse Bingham is not unexpected, especially since the Jags finished below .500 last year. But to not score a single point is a surprise. In fact, West Jordan had just 197 yards of offense against the Miners.

GAME OUTLOOK
Don’t compare Hurricane to Bingham and expect a 28-0 blowout. The Miners draw from a studentbody nearly three times the size of Hurricane’s school population. But this should at least be a good test for the Tigers against a team they handled pretty well a year ago. Expect a close game.

STGnews PREDICTION
Andy Griffin — Hurricane
Jeff Ames — Hurricane
