ST. GEORGE – To help usher in the new year with a sense of hope and faith, the 8th annual Prayer Over the City interfaith event will be taking place at the St. George Tabernacle at noon on New Year’s Day.
“I can’t think of a better way to start out the New Year,” said Pastor Jimi Kestin of Solomon’s Porch Foursquare Followship. Solomon’s Porch Foursquare started Prayer Over the City eight years ago, and it has grown to include members of various faiths.
“We’ve got a very diverse faith community in St. George,” he said.
Past “Prayer Over the City” events have included not only members of various Christian denominations, but also representatives of the Jewish and Buddhist faiths.
Kestin said no one religion is endorsed above another, as the purpose of the gathering is to “come together in community unity.”
The event runs from 12-1 p.m. with representatives various faiths offering brief prayers for the coming year. The event is meant to be crisp and short, Kestin said, “It’s prayer over the city, not preach over the city.”
Local town leaders like St. George Mayor Dan McArthur and members of the St. George City Council are expected to be in attendance at the event.
Kestin said the event is open to any faith group that wishes to participate, representatives may call 435-699-8153 for more information.
