ST. GEORGE – The first day of 2014 will be ushered in by faith and civic leaders from around the community as they meet for the ninth annual Prayer Over the City in St. George.
“Join us for this special show of unity to begin the New Year,” said Rev. Jimi Kestin, of Solomon’s Porch Foursquare Fellowship. “This one hour event is a wonderful way to begin the year with civic leaders, business leaders and faith leaders coming together to show our support for the city we love.”
Over 200 people representing 18 different faith groups participated in the Jan. 1, 2013, gathering held at the St. George Tabernacle, which will again host the event.
“The group is incredibly diverse in thoughts and beliefs,” Kestin said. “And yet, we all share the commonality of love for this community and St. George. This is about community unity.”
Supporting unity within the city as well as its faith community has long been a theme of the Prayer Over the City that began nine years ago.
Kestin said the first Prayer Over the City was held at Pioneer Park with around 10 people attending. That number has grown ever since and has also included representatives of the area’s Jewish and Buddhist communities.
Among the city’s civic leaders anticipated to attend will be Mayor Dan McArthur and Mayor-elect Jon Pike.
