WASHINGTON CITY — After a car sideswiped his motorcycle on 3050 East, a 28-year-old St. George man was in the street in front of IHOP in Washington City. Emergency responders arrived and medical personnel set him on a spine-stabilizing stretcher and transported him to the Dixie Regional Medical Center for evaluation.
The man was wearing a helmet, and his health was in stable condition, however, Washington City Police spokesman Ed Kantor said, the man might have a broken bone, as well as some scrapes and abrasions.
It’s a good thing he was wearing a helmet, Kantor said. “A good percentage of motorcycle accident injuries are usually head trauma related…they have the potential for being some of the worst injuries.”
At about 12:44 p.m., the two-vehicle accident occurred on 3050 East near its intersection with Red Cliffs Drive. A Kia Amanti struck the side of the black cruiser-style motorcycle causing the motorcycle to topple over in the road. The driver of the Amanti was intending to travel straight across 3050 East from the Albertsons’ parking lot to the parking lot of Petco and IHOP, Kantor said.
“There wasn’t a lot of speed involved on the car’s part,” Kantor said, “so fortunately the injuries will be minimal.”
The driver of the Amanti was unharmed, although her car had some front-end damage. Traffic was slowed as the east side lane was closed for a short period of time. Once the ambulance had transported the driver, both vehicles were removed from the main road into the parking lot next to Petco.
The driver of the Amanti was cited for failure to yield.
Kantor did not want to speculate, but he said the causes of the accident were under investigation at this time.
The Washington City Police, Utah Highway Patrol, Washington City Fire Department and Gold Cross Ambulance all assisted with the accident.

Bet there was a cell phone involved…see people coming out of shopping centers into the road talking on them all of the time. Had a few near misses with a few of them when driving down River Road/Telegraph after work. They just aren’t paying attention like they should. Hope he’s ok.

Considering that most newspapers print at a 6th grade reading level, I think that down grading it to a 5th grade reading level is perfectly acceptable with this upcoming generation.
