NATIONAL PARKS — In celebration of the National Park Service’s 98th birthday all 401 national park units, including Grand Canyon National Park, will waive entrance fees on Monday, Aug. 25.
Park visitors are reminded that fee-free designation applies to entrance fees only and does not affect fees for camping, reservations, tours, or use of concessions. Park entrance stations will have the Interagency Senior and Annual Passes available for those who wish to purchase them. Visitors who plan to spend time in the park beyond Aug. 25 will need to pay the regular entrance fee for the remainder of their stay.
The National Park Service was established on Aug. 25, 1916. The United States was the first country in the world to set aside its most significant places as national parks so that they could be enjoyed by all. Each of the 401 national parks throughout the country are an important part of our collective identity. Some commemorate notable people and achievements, others conserve magnificent landscapes and natural wonders, and all provide a place to have fun and learn. Grand Canyon National Park was established in 1919 and encompasses 277 miles of the Colorado River and adjacent uplands. One of the most spectacular examples of erosion anywhere in the world, Grand Canyon is unmatched in the incomparable vistas it offers to visitors on the rim.
