KANAB – Come ‘Kanab’ing’ during Halloween, and enjoy all sorts of safe, screaming fun activities throughout the Halloween week.
Pumpkin contest
The first parade of ghoulish, grinning pumpkins will float into the Kanab City Library on Oct. 27.
As part of the Storybook Spooktacular, each creative carving has a chance to win a prize as long as they are entered before 5 p.m. Children in kindergarten through sixth grade are invited to bring your painted, carved or decorated pumpkin (using a story title theme or storybook character) to the library on Oct. 27, no later than 5 p.m. All entries must have a name card which can be picked up at the front desk.
Judges will determine first, second and third prizes in both age groups, K-third grade and fourth through sixth grade. You do not need to be present to win, but you will need to pick up your pumpkin before 7 p.m. on Oct. 30. The Library will be closed Oct. 31. Any pumpkins not picked up Oct. 30 will be put outside at the front of the Library. Any remaining after 5 p.m. will be sent to that Great Pumpkin Patch in the sky.

Jason Andrews Magic Show
Guaranteed to bring “O’s” of surprise to your face is Jason Andrews professional Magic Show at the Crescent Moon Theater on Thursday, Oct. 30. Coming from Las Vegas, and a former star in “America’s Got Talent,” internationally well-known Andrews presents contemporary classic magic that surprises and amuses. It’s timeless magic, with Andrews own particular (or even perhaps, peculiar) sense of humor. The magic begins at the Crescent Moon on 53 South 100 East in Kanab at 7 p.m. For tickets, telephone 435-644-2350.
Trick or Treat Animal Style

If you think black cats are the only animals to have fun on Halloween, you are about to be proven wrong: Best Friends Animal Sanctuary invites everyone, of all ages, to join in their Trick or Treat Animal Style event. Meet other Halloween’ers at the Welcome Sanctuary in Angel Canyon at 2:30 p.m. on Oct. 31, the shuttle to animal areas leaves at 3 p.m. sharp. Fill up those treat bags while visiting with furry friends and caregivers dressed in costume! Costumed critters will be handing out the sweet stuff – candies, grins and tail wags! RSVP’s are encouraged, by calling 435-644-2001, ext. 4537.
Spooktacular Carnival
Spook Alley may send chills up your spine. The Halloween Spooktacular Carnival at the Old Middle School will chill and thrill with games, food and music put on by the junior members of the Symphony of the Canyons. The Spooktacular is on Oct. 31 from 3-6 p.m., the Old Middle School is across the street to the east of Kanab’s historic Parry Lodge Hotel. And there are still other serious chill factors during this Halloween Week!

Haunted Swamp
The Haunted Swamp is back, and all those daring to enter are warned to wear shoes they don’t mind having snatched by ghostly things – or at least don’t mind getting wet and dirty. From Oct. 28-30, between the hours of 7:30-9 p.m., the Haunted Swamp will embrace daring visitors at 296 West Kanab Creek. On Halloween night, the witches of Haunted Swamp look forward to seeing you between 8:30-10 p.m. If you wish to test your courage, and get more information, call Steph 435-616-5047.

Mesozoic Concert
On a darker note, Kanab’s local full-tilt, guitar-heavy rock band Mesozoic will be playing at the Crescent Theater at 9 p.m. on Halloween Eve. Clad in black and costumed, they will rock to the howling tunes of classic scare songs like “Iron Man”, “Godzilla” and, of course, “Frankenstein”. The best costume in the audience will receive a surprising prize (a visit from the Headless Horseman singing “Devil Went Down to Georgia”?).
Be there, or beware.
