WASHINGTON COUNTY – A 24-year-old Hurricane man was transported to the hospital Monday afternoon after his bullet bike lost traction while entering the Interstate 15 southbound on-ramp near Hurricane Exit 16.
Just before 1 p.m., the man was riding his bike up Highway 9 on the inside of the curve and leaning over, Utah Highway Patrol Trooper John McMahon said.
“The witness who was coming up behind him said he was leaning really far over,” McMahon said. “His back tire came out from underneath and slid off the side – he and the bike kind of flipped through the air.”
“Just from looking at it, the tread on the tires is a little less than appears to be safe,” McMahon said, “and he was traveling too fast for the curve in the road.”
The man, who was wearing a helmet, gloves and a heavy jacket for protection, complained of neck and shoulder pain and was transported to Dixie Regional Medical Center in St. George with injuries that officers said did not appear to be life-threatening.
The man was issued a citation for speeding and given a warning on the condition of his tires, McMahon said.
Utah Highway Patrol, Gold Cross Ambulance and Hurricane Fire department responded to the accident.

I had never heard the term “Bullet Bike” until I moved here. They are usually termed “Sport Bike”

I heard it all the time in California .
Sport bikes are usually the off road / dirt bikes .
Bullet bikes are the higher power ones meant for high speed on freeways .
That is opposite of what I have heard in California or anywhere. Sport bikes are road bikes. “Bullet Bike” was only the name used by the uninformed, or your mother… As in, “You will kill yourself on that blasted Bullet Bike!”
Aside from the nomenclature, I’m glad this rider is going to be okay. Ride safely, friends.

if a car was close enough to see the accident from behind I doubt speed was an issue. I know that corner can be taken at over 100mph on a modern sport bike.. Tread has no effect on dry traction. The tread pattern is there to help move water if the pavement is wet.

It sounds like the young man was unfamiliar with that on-ramp. You can’t lean very much on that curve because it isn’t banked for speed. It’s an S-curve and not banked for the left or the right turn.
Sounds like you have no idea what you are talking about Michele. Have you ever rode a Sport Bike? I have taken that turn many times at well over 75 leaned over pretty hard cause that is the way the bike turns. I know the Kid and he is Very familiar with that on ramp has been riding it for years as he lives in Hurricane.
Let me guess, he was on his way home from getting his Motorcycle Endorsement?
It sounds like he is young and inexperienced.
Start out riding a cruiser before you go for the killing machines.
So many people want to throw out Judgment when they know nothing. He as been riding that bike for years and put a lot of miles on it. He has lived in Hurricane and taken that ramp a lot of times. I have rode with him, he is experienced and know what he is doing on a bike. Accidents happen to everyone, I have not talked to him to hear exactly what happen
“Bullet Bike,” “Sport Bike,” or “Crotch Rocket.” They all are different names for the same thing. Unfortunately, a lot of folks who ride ’em, leave their brains at home once they fork the saddle. (Not saying that toward this particular rider, I don’t know him at all.)
What I do know is that “cagers” (folks who drive automobiles,) will run right over a motorcycle, without ever having seen it. Either that, or they see them, but just don’t care.
I hope this guy doesn’t have any lasting injures here.

The term bullet bike has been around longer than any of you “sport bike” riding youngsters have been around. I recall “bullet bike” being used since the early 70’s.

Bullet bike or crotch rocket are the terms used by those to hat do not ride bikes and have no understanding of the dynamics of the bikes.

He’s ok by the way. Not that humans should actually care about other humans or anything. You are all ridiculous and need to shut up. Whether he was speeding nor not he was hurt and shouldn’t have to be ridiculed about it. Everybody does stupid stuff, maybe you should look at yourself in the mirror and ask yourself what stupid thing you did today instead of focusing on everyone else.
There are two types of bullet bike riders. Those that have laid it down and those who havent….yet.
Shawn and Kev, the oh that can get taken at 100 I take it at 75 is exactly what gives us a bad name because one of your friends wrecks and you hop out with oh I do it faster all the time don’t matter how much you do it don’t be stupid and hot rod your s… to show off I laid mine down once because of weather so I am aware of hazards but doesn’t mean you should be a stupid yea I’m glad the guys ok but you guys are a prime example of why half the people above said what they said oh and before you think I am an upright rider I have a 636 that’s cammed and has a power comander three on it (not the one I laid down)

It is the Freeway on Ramp. It is made to get to speed. So 75 is what you should be doing. Not getting on the Freeway doing 50 like most the people like to do around here.
I was not saying one should take that curve at 100. But I was stating that it is possible, and he was not going 100 or the car behind him would not have witnessed the crash because the bike would have been way in front of the car. So my point was I don’t think he was going that fast. The handling limits of modern bikes are very high, and generally far exceed the skill of the rider. I don’t know how fast this guy was going, but for a crash to be pure speed related on this curve it would be a high speed.

There for you to get up to speed not doing it right off the bat and you can see around the curve from the bottom so the car didn’t have to be right behind him bet if a cop was there he wouldn’t have been doing the same speed and I’m not knocking on him I was just saying that you aren’t helping the case by puffing up like a teenager around his friends like that lady said it isn’t banked for high speed your bike can’t make up for cockieness
