ST. GEORGE – The 2014 Gingerbread Tour is now open to the community for viewing and voting on various gingerbread houses created by several participating Main Street businesses in downtown St. George in connection with its quarterly Art on Main Gallery Stroll.

Voting is open during normal business hours at participating locations, up until the night of the Gingerbread Tour Grand Finale Celebration on Friday from 6-9 p.m.

The tour begins at the Nook in Ancestor Square at 151 N. Main St., St. George, and ends at Cappelleti’s Restaurant on Tabernacle Street and Main Street. Those wishing to cast their vote are encouraged to pick up a Fun Map, available at several Main Street locations. A printable version of the Fun Map is available for download here.

The Fun Map acts as a guide to direct citizens to all participating locations. Participants may request a punch in the designated area on their Fun Map at every business visited on the map throughout the week or on the night of the Dec. 12 event.

Once the card is complete, it can be turned in at the event stage on Friday evening for a chance to win prizes at the Gingerbread Tour Grand Finale Celebration.

Note: Painted Pony is not listed on the map, but is participating in the tour. Be sure not to miss its gingerbread house!

Mayor Jon Pike and the City Council will be handing out candy canes at the Friday event conclusion. Pike will also be announcing the winners of the Gingerbread House competition and prize drawings.

Main Street will be blocked off for the event, which includes the mayor’s official switching on of downtown St. George’s holiday lights.

Several downtown galleries and businesses will also take part in Friday’s culminating event, serving free holiday refreshments and beverages such as: cookies, hot cider, hot chocolate, roasted mallows, cinnamon sticks, donut holes, candy, and much more. Those serving as a treat location on the night of the event are identified with a star on the Fun Map.

Other activities Friday include free Yellowpix photos with Santa at Learn Key, food trucks serving warm sweets, street carolers, fire barrels to keep you warm, live music featuring local musicians and school choirs, drawing and prizes every 30 minutes, as well as bidding to buy gingerbread houses (proceeds to benefit Big Brothers Big Sisters and the Art on Main Foundation).

Art on Main’s Gallery Stroll will also take place from 6-9 on Dec. 12, featuring live music at the fine art galleries on Main. Featured artists will be present at the galleries to talk about their artwork, and a drawing to win an original artwork piece will be available to those who receive a punch on their Fun Map from each participating gallery. The drawing for the original artwork will take place at 25 Main at 9 p.m. on the evening of the event.
