Chick-fil-A investigates potential customer data breach

ST. GEORGE – Chick-fil-A announced Friday that reports have been received regarding unusual activity involving payment cards used at some of its restaurants that may be the result of a potential data breach. The company is working with information technology security firms, law enforcement agencies and their payment industry contacts to determine all the facts and extent of the incident.

“We take our obligation to protect our customer information seriously,” the company said in a statement released Friday.

Chick-fil-A will share the additional information as it becomes available. If an investigation reveals a breach has occurred, Chick-fil-A stated, its customers will not be liable for any fraudulent charges to their accounts. Any fraudulent charges will be the responsibility of either Chick-fil-A or the bank that issued the card.

It has not yet been determined if any of the Chick-fil-A restaurants  in Utah, or elsewhere, have been caught up in the potential data breach. If any customers have been impacted by this incident, Chick-fil-A will arrange for free identity protection services and credit monitoring.
