The event will feature a keynote lecture delivered by Bryan K. Hotchkins, who serves as a postdoctoral research associate in the University of Utah’s Political Science Department. Hotchkins is a frequent guest lecturer on the topic of race relations within higher education. He has also been published in several higher education and public administration journals.
Following the lecture, DSU President Richard B. Williams will dedicate a new light post at the Gardner Center that will honor the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
Reporter Nick Anderson reported in the Dixie Sun News:
Christina Duncan, the BSU adviser and sociology instructor, said the idea for having a light post on campus dedicated to King Jr. was inspired by a quote from his book, ‘Strength to Love,’ which reads: ‘Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.’
The quote will be mounted on the light post along with a picture of King Jr. Many people donated money, books and time to the Black Student Union to make the dedication possible.
In addition to the event, the DSU Black Student Union is sponsoring a special screening of the recently released feature film “Selma” Tuesday evening at the Pine View Megaplex Theater at 7:40 p.m. Tickets are available at the office of the DSU Dean of Students for $6, or $3 for DSU students and faculty and staff with current ID.

Where is the white students union , oh but that would be racist …
You really are “that guy” aren’t you?
Page 101 of this link will show you. http://dsc.dixie.edu/physplant/History/yearbooks/1969YB.pdf
and page 114
That’s just the student union.
Yeah those people make me laugh. They call each other the N word and then if a white person or an Hispanic uses the N word then it becomes a racist thing. LOL. If a black cop shoots a black person then it’s okay but if a white cop shoots a black person then here comes Al Sharpton and that racist bunch from the NAACP because that’s exactly what’s they are
Sure. All of them do that. Uh huh. Just like everyone in StG drinks the mormon koolaid. Do all the koolaid swillers have that same ignorant mindset about non-white people? Are all the Dixie koolaid drinkers polygamists who marry 13 year old girls?
What’s your complaint Koolaid? You do exactly the same thing, painting every one from Southern Utah, or every Mormon, with your same slanted paintbrush in nearly every comment you post. How about keeping your hypercritical and hypocritical comments to yourself.
“hypercritical and hypocritical”… good one. Can I borrow that line?
Maybe you can put on your sheet and hood and go protest at the dedication.
What do you mean “those people”?
Rope a gopher I hear what your saying, i get it; stereotyping the blacks, as koolaid stereotypes the mormans, and I stereotype idiots and as my husband stereotypes everyone ( he’s native american, what that **** you gonna do?)….its cool bro, y’ll be awright.
My husband tells me, “you always leave the native americans out of your racists comments, now if that ain’t racist, I don’t what is.” Geeeeeeeze, if your gonna be a racist, be a complete one, don’t just pick one race, hate them all, he does. LOL Don’t discriminate
As Brittney spears says, oops I did it again…..i spelled mormon wrong. Are all my spelling haters gonna come out to play?
looking at the picture chosen for this articular the researcher (Bryan K. Hotchkins) like most blacks from the U.S. in any photo taken for the world to see has an angry and unfriendly face to show and then they or he wonders why other races dislike them. blacks need to change their belligerent attitude if they want any respect from other race . educated or not that attitude he displays from his face in this article is a reason I carry a weapon … change the attitude and maybe people like myself might not carry a weapon
You carry a weapon so you can shoot any black person whose face doesn’t meet your approval? OSC must stand for Old Stupid Caucasian
Then again, “OSC” could stand for Obnoxious Superficial …”?
Ed. ellipsis.
Wow! St. George news lets racist name calling happen? You guys are great! What a … news source!
Ed. ellipsis; actually, no, MM. Thank you, that one slipped by without notice, it’s been edited now.
to Munchic
yep and in your case the same … since you lower yourself to name calling
Really? Like most blacks? Because I’m sure you know most blacks don’t you?
“articular”?? Do carrying a weapon and being illiterate go hand in hand?
Southern Utah, and Dixie State “university”. A definite Mecca for racial and cultural diversity. LOLOLOLOLOL!!!!!!!!
‘Please….can’t we all get along?”
JUST WOW-I CANT BELIEVE THE COMMENTS I JUST READ. SAD 🙁
