ST. GEORGE — A woman was taken to the hospital with head injuries Wednesday morning after the school bus she was riding in crashed into a light pole at Snow Canyon Middle School in St. George.
At 8:01 a.m., a bus driver was traveling with three students and one teacher’s aide toward the back of Snow Canyon Middle School, located at 1215 Lava Flow Drive in St. George, when he crashed the bus into a light pole, St. George Police Officer Tyrell Bangerter said.
The teacher’s aide, a woman, was standing up in the bus assisting the driver as he maneuvered through the parking lot and was thrown forward when the bus crashed, Bangerter said.
The teacher’s aide was transported by Gold Cross Ambulance to Dixie Regional Medical Center with head injuries that did not appear to be life-threatening, Bangerter said. The students riding on the bus were sitting down and buckled in at the time of the crash and were not injured.
The bus sustained damage to the front bumper and windshield, and the light pole was bent and partially uprooted from the parking lot.
The bus driver was cited for a negligent collision, Bangerter said.
The St. George Police Department, St. George Fire Department and Gold Cross Ambulance attended to the accident scene.

When did they put seatbelts in the School Buses? I guess I am out of the loop because a few years ago, there weren’t. Glad everyone is ok.

If he couldn’t avoid a light pole, he could have just as easily hit a student! Get rid of this driver before he kills some of our kids!

FYI…A ride to the hospital in an ambulance with non life threatening injuries will cost your pocket book a Heck of a lot more than than a taxi will!

Re both of the comments above. I didn’t know the school buses had seat belts either. Most school districts (that I’m familiar with) do not. The bus driver….well, we need more facts before judging, but the one fact that tells its own story is that he was cited for a negligent collision which indicates he was AT FAULT. This is not the kind of driver I want bussing my children (or grandchildren as is my case!). Too many school bus drivers cited recently for recklessness or driving under the influence. And these guys have our children’s LIVES in their hands. Sorry but NO SECOND CHANCES. Well, actually, I’m NOT sorry for my opinion….

Why just 3-students and an aid? If the aid was guiding, wasn’t it her own fault for misguiding? Sounds a little fishy.
