HURRICANE — Two men sustained minor injuries and eastbound traffic was backed up for 30 minutes as a result of a four-vehicle collision on State Street in Hurricane Thursday afternoon.

At approximately 3:52 p.m., three eastbound vehicles were stopped at a traffic light at the intersection of 3400 West and State Street. A 1997 GMC pickup truck was stopped in the left eastbound lane; a 2005 Buick was stopped behind the GMC; and a 2002 Chevrolet pickup truck was in the left turning lane, Hurricane City Police Sgt. Brandon Buell said. A 1999 Mercury Villager approached the stopped vehicles from behind.

The light turned green but traffic was not yet moving forward, and the 27-year-old man driving the Mercury did not slow down quickly enough and hit into the Buick. This caused a domino effect, and the Buick struck the GMC, sending it into the left turning lane where it hit the Chevrolet, Buell said.

The driver of the Mercury and the 56-year-old man driving the Buick sustained minor injuries but refused medical transport, Buell said. No one else was injured.

The Buick and Mercury were both disabled and had to be towed from the scene. The two pickup trucks were able to be driven from the scene.

One eastbound lane was shut down for 30 minutes during the cleanup of the accident, Buell said. The Hurricane City Police Department, Hurricane Valley Fire District and Utah Department of Transportation responded to the accident scene.

No citations have been given in connection with the incident at the time of this publication, as law enforcement continues to investigate, Buell said.

This report is based on preliminary information provided by law enforcement or other emergency responders and may not contain the full scope of findings.

    “hit into the Buick”?

I’ve seen this driver and his dozens of cousins on the streets of Washington County day in and day out. Roar up to the intersection and then slam on the brakes – or not. Live fast, die stupid and create mayhem everywhere along the way.

Speculation? That information, though confusingly worded, is from the Police Sergeant who was looking at the scene and speaking to the drivers, including the Buick driver.

Yeah well according to the facts the entire situation was caused by a misunderstanding of geo presence verses future placement of present momentation resulting in a physical contact of transportation vehicles being routed in the same variance of area placement. so according to the responding officer the entire situation had been over criticized by a lack of professional simplicity.. I knew it right away.
