A-List: The best donuts in Dixie

OPINION — Happy National Donut Day!

Today might as well be called national call in “sick” to work day, because there are dozens of ring-shaped delights that deserve to be celebrated. And what better way to celebrate them than by devouring as many as possible before the day is over?

Count me in.

If you’ve been living under a rock and haven’t planned ahead for this holiday, donut panic – I’ve got you covered. (As usual.)

Here’s your go-to guide to my favorite donut stops in St. George:

Lin’s Fresh Market

Aka donut heaven. Their made-from-scratch selection is to die for. You HAVE to try their Texas sized donut. (It’s literally a glazed donut the size of my face and is only $1.49.) Some other fun ones to try are the maple bacon donut (yes real bacon on top) and the PB&J donut.

Curtis Bakery

This is a local favorite for many, but it is still undiscovered by some. My favorite is the glazed donut, but I’ve tried almost all of the others and have yet to be disappointed.

TIPS: They don’t accept cards, so bring cash. The bakery closes at noon, but their donuts are sold all around town! You can find them at Fabulous Freddy’s, Swig, Cravings Bakery (Dutchman’s Market), Lightfoot’s, First Stop, and several other retailers.

Grandma Tobler’s Bakery

I debated sharing this secret with you because I want them all for myself. I’ve probably consumed around 10,000 donuts (give or take a few thousand) in my lifetime and I’ve never loved a maple donut more than Grandma Tobler’s. I would tell you all about it but I don’t want to spoil the surprise. You’re welcome.

TIPS: They have a limited amount everyday, so get there early. If you live in Ivins, these are also delivered to the Red Mountain Market every morning of the week except Sunday.

Dunford Donuts

Dunford Donuts isn’t actually located in St. George, but their donuts are. I was born and raised in Salt Lake City and this was always my family’s favorite, so I had to share. They are famous for their chocolate cake donut, but their glazed and old-fashioned donuts are easily just as amazing.

TIPS: Green Valley Market and Red Mountain Market are both places that carry Dunford. If you’ve discovered them at other places around town, DO TELL!

Fractured Prune

These made-to-order cake donuts are tasty treats and a fun experience overall. You can try anything from french toast to s’more donuts! I’m obsessed with the caramel bliss and the carnival.

TIP: Eat them while their hot! Use a fork and knife and share a dozen different ones!

Bites Donuts Food Truck

These tiny bite sized donuts are a dream come true! I’ve only tried their cini-mini’s, but their oreo and double tella specialty flavors are next to try on my list.

TIP: They roll back and forth between Cedar City and St. George, so follow them on Instagram to see their schedule.

Lin’s and Fractured Prune are at the top of my list.

Still the Curtis Bakery. In addition to Ali’s list, they service the Bluff St Shell and the Sinclair on St George Blvd…course, you gotta be early to get one.

Fractured prune was good, but not affordable. We need the good ole dunkin donuts or a real donut shop with coffee and donuts that stays open late for those late night donut runs 😉 I guess I’ll have to set up a gofundme account 😉

I understand no love for Krispy Kreme this far from Vegas, but if you happen to be in one of their bakeries when the original glazed are fresh and hot — really, really good.
