Hard freeze warning issued for parts of Utah

SOUTHERN UTAH — The National Weather Service in Salt Lake City has issued a “Hard Freeze Warning” for the parts of Southern Utah including Garfield County. The warning is in effect from Wednesday at midnight until 9 a.m. Thursday.

Affected area

Areas affected by the warning are the southern Wasatch Front, western Uinta Basin, San Rafael Swell, including the cities of Lehi, Provo, Duchesne, Roosevelt, Green River and Hanksville.

Temperatures

Temperatures are expected to drop into the mid- to upper-20s.

Timing

Temperatures are expected to fall below freezing after midnight and reach the upper-20s during the early morning hours Thursday.

Impacts

Faucets and irrigation systems can be damaged by freezing water. Crops and outdoor vegetation can be damaged or die in these cold temperatures.

Precautionary and preparedness actions

A hard freeze warning means subfreezing temperatures are imminent or highly likely. These conditions will kill crops and other sensitive vegetation.
