ST. GEORGE — Businesses, groups, service clubs and community volunteers will gather Tuesday as United Way Dixie brings the 15th annual “Day of Caring.”

This meaningful day full of service will bring volunteers from all walks of life together; joining hands to give back as several service projects are completed for local nonprofit organizations in the area.

Included on the ballot of service opportunities and coming back for its third year is a local favorite, the community food packaging event. It achieves the largest community impact by helping fight hunger in Washington County.

Partnering with Switchpoint Community Resource Center and Dixie State University’s Student Association, the food packaging event will engage over 500 volunteers to help package meals for families in need living in the St. George and surrounding areas.

The event is being held in the Gardner Center on Dixie State campus, 225 S. 700 East, St. George, Tuesday from 4-7 p.m.

This single event will produce 100,000 meals, an exciting goal which doubles the amount packaged in prior years.

Businesses, groups, service clubs and community members are invited to register a 10-person food packaging team or simply stop by the university from 4-7 p.m. to lend a hand.

Join other teams including Mountain America Credit Union, Wal-Mart Distribution Center, Smith’s, Bella Terra and the city of St. George to package meals alongside St. George Mayor Jon Pike.

Volunteers are encouraged to bring quarters to help sponsor the cost of the 25-cent meals as well as any nonperishable food item for the Utah Food Bank food collection barrels.

To register a team or to volunteer during the Community Food Packaging Event, please email United Way Dixie at [email protected].
