IRON COUNTY — A crash about four miles south of Parowan on southbound Interstate 15 has resulted in complete closure of the road in the area of the incident.

Update 7:10 p.m. I-15 is backed up for approximately eight miles behind the crash but is beginning to move slowly, according to an area resident.

Utah Highway Patrol troopers responded to the crash involving a semitractor-trailer that rolled while hauling flour at mile marker 71 on southbound I-15 at approximately 5:20 p.m.

UHP Sgt. Brady Zaugg said the crash involved serious injuries that trapped the driver and required extrication from the truck.

“It’s blocking all southbound lanes,” Zaugg said at around 5:45 p.m.

“Traffic has been stopped for approximately 30 minutes,” Parowan resident Corey McNiel told Cedar City News at 6 p.m. “It is not moving at all.”

The Utah Department of Transportation says delays are expected to continue for approximately one hour and advises drivers to use alternate routes.

McNeil said motorists are currently being diverted onto a frontage road in the area of the crash.

The crash comes only hours after another crash blocked traffic on southbound I-15 in Washington County near the Black Ridge Exit, causing miles of standstill traffic.
