Driver overcorrects, rolls once, comes to rest 100 feet off SR-18

WASHINGTON COUNTY — A teen escaped injury following a vehicle rollover on route Route 18 Tuesday evening.

Units of the Utah Highway Patrol, Washington County Sheriff’s Office, Diamond Valley Fire Department and Dammeron Valley Fire Department responded to a single-vehicle crash near milepost 15 on SR-18 around 7:30 p.m. What they found was a passenger car that had gone 100 or so feet off the road, rolled at least once, and had been driven by a 17-year-old girl.

“(She) took her eyes off the road for a moment and drifted off to the right shoulder, heard the rumble strips, over-corrected to the left, went off the left shoulder of the road and overturned,” UHP Trooper Mike Murphy said.

The teen was wearing her seat belt and appeared uninjured following the crash, Murphy said, yet was still taken to Dixie Regional Medical Center for observation.

Because the car came to a stop away from the road, there was no impact to traffic beyond vehicles slowing down as they passed emergency vehicles parked on the side of the road.

This report is based on statements from police or other emergency responders and may not contain the full scope of findings.
