Arizona man killed in UTV crash at Coral Pink Sand Dunes

ST. GEORGE — A  man died in an off-roading crash at the Coral Pink Sand Dunes State Park Wednesday night.

In a statement Thursday, the Utah Division of Parks and Recreation identified the man as 46-year-old Mark Lynn Allred, of Cottonwood, Arizona. According to the statement, he was driving a Utility Terrain Vehicle at the northern end of the sand dunes in Kane County when the crash occurred.

The UTV Allred was driving is believed to have been the only vehicle involved in the crash, according to the statement. No additional details regarding how the crash occurred were provided.

State park rangers and Kane County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the scene while people who witnessed the crash performed CPR on Allred.

Allred was pronounced dead by responders at the scene.

Allred was not wearing a helmet, according to the statement. Investigators do not believe alcohol was involved.

There was a passenger riding with Allred who was transported to an area hospital for evaluation. The extent of any injuries was not detailed in the statement from the Utah Division of Parks and Recreation.

“The Utah Division of Parks and Recreation extends our condolences to the family and friends impacted by this incident,” the statement reads.

The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
