CEDAR CITY — Preliminary Election Night results for the various municipal races in Iron County were officially released by County Clerk Jonathan Whittaker shortly after 10 p.m. Tuesday, but a few races are still too close to call considering the number of outstanding ballots that have yet to be counted.

Whittaker said the uncounted ballots include some 2,200 ballots that were dropped off in person at ballot boxes on Tuesday, plus an indeterminate number of additional ballots that are expected to arrive in the mail over the next few days. Ballots sent through the mail must be postmarked on or before Nov. 1 to be valid.

“We anticipate tabulating tomorrow and releasing additional results by 5 p.m.,” Whittaker said in an email accompanying Tuesday night’s preliminary vote totals.

In the tightly contested Cedar City mayoral race, incumbent Mayor Maile Wilson-Edwards holds a slim 16-vote lead over challenger Garth O. Green.

Meanwhile, in the race for two Cedar City Council seats, incumbent R. Scott Phillips has been re-elected to a second four-year term on the council, while Ronald Riddle appears to have also won a seat on the council, having garnered the second-most votes.

In Parowan, Mollie Halterman’s write-in campaign for mayor appears to have been successful, with Halterman receiving almost as many votes as the other two candidates combined, including incumbent Preston Griffiths.

In addition, as of Tuesday night, Iron County School District’s $69.5 million bond proposal has nearly 500 more voters in favor of issuing the bonds than were opposed.

See the preliminary results for each of the Iron County races below, and check back on Cedar City News for updated results Wednesday evening.

Note: the percentage totals shown below do not add up to 100% due to some voters casting partial ballots (leaving one or more races blank).
