Owned and operated by the Paiute Indian Tribe of Utah but offering services to all members of the Cedar City community, the new center will be located on the currently vacant lot to the southeast of the existing FourPoints clinic at 440 N. Paiute Drive.

Officials with the Paiute Indian Tribe of Utah were on hand for the groundbreaking event, which took place the morning of Oct. 22. FourPoints Health also has community health centers in four other locations in Southern Utah: St. George, Ivins, Kanosh and Richfield.

A news release from tribal officials said they have outgrown the current Cedar City facility, which shares a building with the tribal offices, and they anticipate the new clinic will permit continued growth. The new facility, expected to be completed in the fall of 2022, will be more than three times the size of the current clinic.

The new clinic will feature a centralized lobby and reception area with 15 medical exam rooms, an in-house lab, eight dental chair bays, 12 behavioral counseling offices and space for future growth.

“We are very excited for the new facility that will unify our services and allow us to better serve our community,” officials said in the press release.

According to tribal officials, the name “FourPoints” refers to the concept of treating the whole person, comprising body, mind, emotions and spirit, within a Mus-Pu-V or “medicine wheel” approach to well-being.

Services offered by FourPoints Health clinics include primary medical care, dental (in some locations), mental health treatment and counseling, substance use recovery, prevention and family and social services.

Additionally, cultural services including sweat lodge ceremonies and drum circles are available to any patient interested in exploring resources beyond traditional therapy. Many of the staff at FourPoints are tribal members working for and giving back to their tribe and community.

Those on hand for the Oct. 22 groundbreaking event included members of the current Paiute Indian Tribe of Utah Tribal Council, past tribal chairs, current health board members, and the PITU queen and princess.
