The crosstown rivals split the varsity contests, with the Canyon View girls defeating Cedar, 31-20, after which the Cedar boys beat the Falcons, 76-51.

In the girls game, the Falcons opened up a 7-2 lead in the first quarter, then stayed up by five at halftime, 15-10. Canyon View extended its lead to nine in the third quarter, then held the Reds to a single field goal in the fourth to cap off the 31-20 victory.

Harlee Nicoll scored a team-high nine points for Canyon View and also grabbed seven rebounds. Maylee Spencer added six points, Erin Robinson and Payton Lister each scored five, and Jaden Johnson dished out five assists.

Braylee Peterson was Cedar’s top scorer with eight points. Both teams are now an even .500 on the young season, with Canyon View at 5-5 overall and Cedar at 4-4.

Then, in the boys game, Cedar came out of the gate on fire, scoring a whopping 28 points in the first quarter, with Ty Harrison leading the way with 14 points, including four 3-pointers. Zab Santana added eight points, including a pair of treys, and center Aaron Munson accounted for the remaining six Cedar points as the Reds led 28-13 after one quarter.

The Falcons were led by Xavier Kadous and Andrew Barnes, who each scored 12 points.

Cedar improved its record to 5-6 with the win, while Canyon View dropped to 2-7. Canyon View will have three more games next week (Dec. 28-30) when it hosts the Steve Hodson Cancer Classic invitational tournament. However, Cedar’s next scheduled game won’t be until Jan. 5, when the Reds host Pine View in a Region 10 matchup.

As for the girls teams, the Canyon View Lady Falcons also have three games scheduled during next week’s Hodson Classic: against Ogden on Dec. 28, Grantsville on Dec. 29 and Payson on Dec. 30. Meanwhile, Cedar’s next two games are a non-region contest at Delta on Dec. 30, followed by a Region 10 game at Pine View on Jan. 4.
