Not long after 4 p.m. on Wednesday, a two-door black pickup truck with three occupants was traveling east on Snow Canyon Parkway near the Entrada housing development when it rolled multiple times, St. George Police Officer Tiffany Mitchell told St. George News, adding that authorities were still investigating the details of what happened.

Mitchell said a man was ejected from the truck and transported by ambulance to the hospital. Given that the man was ejected, she said his injuries were likely serious. A juvenile seated in the back of the truck was also transported to the hospital suffering from what looked like some broken bones, she said. Police say the ejected passenger may not have been wearing a seat belt.

The driver was uninjured and stayed behind, where he was questioned by police. Mitchell said he was cooperating with the investigation. Meanwhile, an accident reconstruction team worked to determine what occurred. The team took measurements and deployed a drone that took aerial pictures of the truck. Visible damage to the vehicle included shattered windshields and windows, flat tires, a folded-up hood and a mangled front bumper.

Across the street from the damaged truck, in the right eastbound lane, a large piece of alleged evidence – the bed liner of another truck – was roped-off and guarded by a police car.

Mitchell said the investigation was in its preliminary stages but acknowledged the bed liner might be a clue to what caused the pickup to roll.

“It was a single-vehicle (crash), but it was maybe caused by something coming out of another vehicle,” she said. “We’re not sure if that’s the case yet, but it is a possibility.”

An hour after the incident, eastbound traffic from Ivins on Snow Canyon Parkway was blocked. Drivers were allowed to head west in the same area, though one lane was blocked.

This report is based on preliminary information provided by law enforcement and may not contain the full scope of findings.
