Association of University Women holds election forum; reserve tickets now

ST. GEORGE  Politics without fireworks are slated for the Oct. 3 meeting of the St. George Branch of the American Association of the University Women. Utah’s largest branch of the national organization has invited four local opposing candidates for a mutually respectful open discussion of how each plans to serve the community if elected this fall.

“We reduced the number of candidates invited and changed the format to a town hall type of exchange to allow more time for the audience to interact with the candidates and get better acquainted with their views on issues important to us all. Our goal is a non-partisan effort to get informed voters to the polls,” Lysa McCarroll, president of the AAUW branch said.

Confirmed for the forum are: Dorothy Engelman and Don Ipson, competing for the Utah Senate from District 29 and Charlene Albarran, running for Congress on the Democratic ticket. Participation by her opponent, Republican incumbent Chris Stewart, is pending, a spokesman from his office said.

The hour plus forum is open to all who purchase a ticket ($17) for the luncheon that precedes it at the Courtyard by Marriott, 185 S. 1470 E., St. George. Based on attendance at two previous forums Program Chair Shannon Andersen says “We expect this third edition to be packed and reservations need to be paid by Sept. 26.”

No tickets will be sold at the door.
