Learn guerrilla marketing for writers and entrepreneurs from author Tom Garrison

ST. GEORGE — Come hear multiple award-winning author Tom Garrison discuss guerrilla marketing at a special Heritage Writers Guild presentation.

Garrison has published five books and more than 110 articles in the past nine years. He will be presenting in the basement level conference room of the St. George library from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m on Nov. 12.

Like most of us, you may have written what will certainly be a best seller. Unfortunately, traditional literary agents and book publishers fail to acknowledge the hemingwayesque quality of your manuscript. To heck with them, independent publishing is the answer and guerrilla marketing also works for other products and services. Millions of books (at least some of them half-way decent) have been independently published by their authors. So, do it.

Now that your book is printed, who’s going to market and promote it? Guess what, that is your new job. Don’t despair, Garrison’s handy guide to guerrilla marketing will lead you through the basics of promoting and marketing your book at very low cost, other than upwards scores of hours of boring computer work.

What is guerrilla marketing? It is not selling gorillas. Guerrilla marketing, like guerrilla warfare, is based on fully utilizing all resources available to the guerrilla. A guerrilla fighter or marketer cannot match the traditional army and book publisher’s resources, but he or she can be effective. The guerrilla marketer must concentrate on the low cost, and usually time intensive, marketing and promotional outlets.

Following these guidelines does not ensure success, but it won’t be for a lack of trying. Failing to promote your books will almost certainly guarantee failure, for example, a very modest number of sales near zero.

There are two prerequisites for successful guerrilla marketing — initiative and persistence. You have already shown you possess these traits by writing a book. Start promoting your magnum opus.
