IRON COUNTY – A rollover occurred on Interstate 15 near Parowan early Thursday morning that left a man dead.
Around 1 a.m., Thursday, the Cedar Communications Center received calls from the concerned friends of the driver of a red Ford pickup who was traveling with them on southbound I-15 near Parowan. They told dispatch they had tried to contact the man via his cell phone and had been unsuccessful, UHP Sgt. Todd Royce said.
UHP troopers were dispatched to around mile post 76 where the driver’s friends indicated they had last had contact with him. The troopers were unable to locate the driver or his vehicle during the initial search.
Following the search, a new call came from a passersby around 7 a.m. who noticed a wrecked pickup in a field by the roadway.
For unknown reasons the pickup slid off the interstate and proceeded to roll multiple times before coming to a stop on its wheels, Royce said. The roof of the truck received significant damage and is suspected to have contributed to the death of the driver. The driver was wearing his seat belt and was the only occupant in the vehicle when the accident occurred.
The investigation into the accident is ongoing. The name of the rollover victim has yet to be released.
