ST. GEORGE – Kids gathered around Tawa Ponds Saturday morning for the annual St. George Fishing Derby. Lines were cast, fish were caught, and a lot of fun was had.
Participants and spectators got comfortable with their lawn chairs and coolers; ready for the first catches of the day. Fishing poles and bait were provided at no cost for children who wished to participate.
“If you’ve got kids and you want to teach them about fishing this is the best place to come and do it,” said Rick Rosenberg, of Southern Utah Anglers, who coordinated the event.
Six representatives from the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources are teaching a Fishing 101 class for free. In this quick course you can learn about tying knots, fish, fish ethics, and all the gear.
