At about 1:15 p.m., the woman was traveling northbound on River Road, St. George Police Sgt. Rich Triplett said, when she failed to stop for a pickup truck at the Brigham Road stoplight and hit it from behind. The resulting collision severely damaged the front end of the car and gave the driver, who was not wearing a seat belt, a bloody nose.

The truck had its rear bumper bent down and minor damage to the rear end of the vehicle.

The driver of the truck, Tracy Jessop, of Colorado City, Arizona, was shaken up but unhurt.

“I was sitting at the light and sat there for probably five to 10 seconds,” Jessop said, “just listening to the radio and not paying much attention to what was going on behind me and just got mashed from behind.”

“My back’s all tight but I’m all right,” Jessop said.

No air bags deployed.

The woman driving the car was treated by Gold Cross Ambulance paramedics and then taken to Dixie Regional Medical Center in St. George. Her condition was reported as stable by Triplett, who added she was cited for improper lookout.

Units from the St. George Police Department, the St. George Fire Department and Gold Cross Ambulance responded to the scene. Traffic was slowed for approximately 45 minutes while crews investigated and cleaned up the scene.

This report is based on preliminary information provided by law enforcement or other emergency responders and may not contain the full scope of findings.
