ST. GEORGE – An alleged prowler who was arrested Tuesday morning after exhibiting odd behavior in a St. George neighborhood may have been under the influence of methamphetamine.
Officers responded to a prowler report on the 2800 East block of 300 North in St. George where it was reported that a suspicious person was getting into cars and chasing children from a bus stop, according to a probable cause statement filed by the St. George Police Department in support of the arrest.
Witnesses told police the suspicious male was knocking on doors and windows of houses and getting into cars, the statement said. He also allegedly chased two young girls away from a nearby bus stop.
When officers arrived on scene, they located the man, later identified as 18-year-old Daniel Kent Rowley Jr., getting into another car in the area.
“The car did not belong to him,” the arresting officer wrote in the statement. “He was erratic and would not say who he was or what he was doing.”
Rowley told officers he did not know what his name was, that he couldn’t remember what had happened and that he “thought everything was a dream,” the statement said.
“He said he may or may not have gotten into several cars and a house,” the arresting officer wrote. “He said he was on painkillers.”
Rowley was placed under arrest and transported to the Washington County Purgatory Correctional Facility.
“At the jail, he stepped out of the car and there was a clear plastic bag with white crystal material inside,” the officer wrote. “This was under his butt. Officer Chamberlain asked him what it was and he said it was methamphetamine.”
Rowley was charged with two class A misdemeanors for burglary of a vehicle and drug possession and two class B misdemeanors for possession of drug paraphernalia, along with an infraction for disorderly conduct.
His court arraignment is scheduled for Thursday in 5th District Court.
Persons arrested or charged are presumed innocent until found guilty in a court of law or as otherwise decided by a trier-of-fact.
